I really don't much understand the whole first Thursday "let's all hold our openings on the same day" thing... I mean it makes sense for places like 49 Geary where there are over a dozen galleries in one location. It's practical like Oakland's first Friday's Art Murmur (which is going on tonight BTW). It attracts people across the bay making the trip worth while- hitting up multiple shows all in one easy Friday night casual stroll... Last night was mental for an art aficionado. You try and plan it out, but no matter what you aren't going to make it unless you have the determination of an Alan Bamberger. You're going to run into friends and before you know it you've failed your mission only hitting two of the eight planned stops for the night (spaced on Tommy Guerrero playing music @111 Minna)... Still got all month to see the missed shows of - Maya Hayuk & Todd Bratrud @FIFTY24SF - Henry Lewis @Lower Haighters - and many a more.

Anyway, we made it out for a few things mostly down at 49 Geary- our starting point.

Get yourself in the proper mindstate.

then made our way over to the Robert Koch Gallery for their summer group show.

I didn't get names of the artists because I expected to be able to get info off Koch's website, but no go.

Then to Steven Wolf for ID IS featuring Hooliganship, Anna Schachte, Dan Tierney, & Frances Trombly... I was there to see my favorite Dan Tierney.

Ran into Oliver Rosenberg (right) who's in town from NYC, and I forgot his friend's name.

Misako Inaoka at Steven Wirtz Gallery (why do all the galleries down there name the galleries after themselves?)

She created these great hybrid cross breeds installed with some sort of sensor that when you wave your hand over them they make little chirping sounds and spastic little movements.

I think I have a thing for shows that have a somewhat science angle which reminds me that Tiffany Bozic's show at California Academy of Sciences is coming up in November. It's going to be amazing!... Have you seen renderings of the new building in GG Park?

We got some beverages to drink in front of Adobe where Caire and Jeremy Weiss's poloriod project was being displayed. I could show you some shitty photos of good photos, but I think it's best to just show you some of the good photos without me fucking them up.

and then I ran into Maya Hayuk whose show I really wanted to see. Will check it out next week for sure.

and probably the main reason I was still moving was because Thee More Shallows were playing at the Hemlock. I've seen them a few times in the past and they've had some issues keeping the performance up to the album, but last night, dare I say, I believe they exceeded their newest album Book of Bad Breaks. So good and if you ever have the chance see them... DO, and if you're over in Europe, they'll be playing some shows late October all around France.
